Peoria Chiefs

Peoria Chiefs is the name of a team that plays professional basketball in the minor league having an affiliation of Class A. The team has its affiliation with Chicago Cubs that belongs to Peoria in Illinois. Peoria Chiefs plays in the league of Midwest. It was in the year of 1983 that the team was inaugurated in Peoria.

Peoria Chiefs were inaugurated with the name of Peoria Suns that was a farm team of California Angels. This team had replaced Dantville Suns which was the farm team before. In the year that followed, the team got the traditional name of “Chiefs”. This name was referred to the tribes of Peoria after whom the name of the city was kept.

The first park that the Peoria Chiefs could call their home was called the Meinen Field, which is situated near the University of Bradley. This park was built in the year of 1968. The park was later named to be the stadium of Pete Vonachen after its renovation in the year of 1992. Peoria Chiefs shifted to O’Brien Field, which was there new park since the year of 2002. In this new park, the record of attendance was an amazing 254,407 in the very first year along with a Midwest League win by .Peoria Chiefs.
